Living on the roof

This picture instantly made to think of the song Sitting On The Moon (Enigma) ... Where are you? I am sitting on the ...

Rain drops - look closely

Another nicely renovated wooden building on the corner of Melnsila and Kalnciema. Never been in there - I suspect there is a fashion shop or a coffee shop in there.

Kisezers

While Daugava river and Riga Gulf is ice free Kisezers lake is melting slowly. I wonder who owns these floating premises.

Hideout

Driving over Vecdaugava in Mangalsala I noticed this funny instalation that someone has designed for a comfy fishing during summer. No seatbelts needed as the fish are small here :)

Snowdrops on two wheels

Two very impatient bikers try to enjoy the ride on two wheels on a day that is too cold for that, not to mention the road condition. Despite all, I am also one, who has opened season already.

Green Market

It surprised me that Estonian traders have come all the way down to Riga to trade in the Mezaparks on this sunny Sunday.

Actually this is not a poor dog. I suppose he can do almost everything like before thanks to designers and his master.

Tubing

I noticed these two kids tubing down the steep bridge bank as I was passing Salu bridge. I thought it's very enthusiastic to use infrastructure elements for haveing a good time. These kids were playing safely, so I left.

Walkabout

Mangaļsala is one of my favourite places to visit both on calm and stormy days. The path towards lighthouse is surrounded by different objects, elements and beings, that spring sun has lightened and awakened. It attracts lots of people that enjoy the walk on the breakwater interacting with nature and each other.

Daugava waiting for its Darling

The water transport has always been a part of Riga infrastructure, but far not good at all to my mind. The old river buses of soviet times really are metal scraps, that have become inefficient and unfriendly to nature long time ago. So couple years ago a new company KMK started its struggle against beaurocracy to bring water transport in Riga canal and Daugava up to new and much more pleasant levels. Click on the post title to find out more.

Wooden architecture - Kalnciema street

Kalnciema street area is full of brilliant wooden buildings. Because it is a main street going from airport to centre, it was refurbished heavily before NATO summit in Riga in 2006.

Maskavas str. 121b

In the middle of 19th century this market place was outside city's administrative territory. Merchants traded firewood, hay, horses and other fiddle-faddle here, avoiding dues. History should repeat itself.
