Cleaning snow from the roof

With heavy snow/deep crusts like that, you will need a snow rake and a snow cutter. You can also use a razor's double cutting surface - this is advisable for those who shovel on a steep-pitched roof.

It is more fun to shovel snow from the roof as a group. It is also advisable this way because it will make the workload a lot easier to accomplish. Invite friends or neighbors for the activity. In return, you can volunteer to help shovel snow in their homes.

Shoveling snow off the roof can be daunting task, but if you have buddies to back you up, then it will definitely ease your heavy workload. Even if you have flat roof, this can be a dangerous job. So, it would be safe to take safety precautions like wearing insulated and thick-soled cleats to avoid slipping.

Ugh. I’ve heard a lot of stories of people who had their roofs weighed down and damaged because of all the snow. It really is a good thing to shovel it all off at the end of the day, so that it won’t accumulate and weigh down your roof.

Alison is right. It's more fun and educational to work as a group on the roof. In case one person in the group isn’t sure if what they’re doing is right, or wrong, he can ask another person who is more knowledgeable, and has more experienced with the task. :)

I cannot see anyone’s facial expression, but it seems like cleaning snow from this wide roof is fun, fun, fun! :D Haha! Who knew cleaning could be this exciting, eh? It’s just like simply playing with snow, and the fact that you’re doing all the cleaning with your buddies makes it ten times thrilling. Hmm. I might invite my friends to do this cleaning thing some time.

Good job! Cleaning the snow from the roof should be done as soon as possible. Though each roof is built to withstand a certain amount of snow, it is still best to remove the snow to prevent possible damage and accidents. For example, if a roof has rafters that are 16” on the center and has a thick underlayment plywood, it would be stronger to hold the snow than the 24” rafters.

“I cannot see anyone’s facial expression, but it seems like cleaning snow from this wide roof is fun, fun, fun! :D Haha!” I love what you said here, Kristopher! Haha. Thanks for this photo as it gives us an idea of how shoveling snow off your roof can be a fun family/friends activity. I might try it as well with my brothers. :D But, of course, it’s not just about having fun. You should also take this cleaning work seriously because it could be dangerous up there. You have to be careful while working, and be sure you use the right tool and the right gear! :)

You’re right, Kermit! One must purchase tools that are specifically designed to take off snow. These may include a snow rake, a snow cutter, and a roof razor. Also, to avoid damaging the roof’s exterior, make sure to keep a protective coating of snow.

@Penelope, it seems that you really know a lot about cleaning snow from the roof, huh? Well, that’s great! Do you also make it as one of your fun activities with your family? Hehe! Knowing how to clean the roof is important, and as a form of maintenance, could eventually prevent roof problems. ;)

You’re right, Neil. During the winter season, it is important to regularly remove the snow from your roof, since excessive snow can lead to structural damage, leaking and ice dams.
