Green wall


Vines are very invasive and aggressive, but in the urban environment I welcome them a lot - pushes the artificial bee hive (city) a bit closer back to natural order.

Gertrudes Church

Even though this church has been covered in earlier posts by Karlis I've got to post this one to reflect and contradict old and new, the glass v.s. red brick.

I took the photo of Old Gerthrud's Church (Gertrudes baznica) early in the morning - just after I finished my work. The only people keeping the street busy were pigeons :)

First time Old Gertrudes Church was mentioned was in 1413. Though acquired the current look and location in 1866. The architect is Johan Daniel Felsko. It is considered to have the best organs in Riga.

I live just behind the New Gerthrude's church actually. Don't worry, I am not deaf yet and it is because they don't ring those bells for an hour three times a week, if you know what I mean:). I saw someone suggesting in another Daily Photo blog (here) it looks similar to the Grace Church.
