Getting high

If you want to see Riga from up above without your feet touching the ground, the only two cheapest possibilities are human levitation and paragliding. The last one can be done from any plain terrain, where car with a motorwinch on the roof can tow the paraplan. So when the paragliders get airbourne till 2 kilometres, they release the cable and enjoy descending. The car driver stops unwinding and switches to rewinding the rope on the spool. Tomorrow I will tell you who they really are and what they actually do with this, but for now, while looking closely at this photo, you might want to take a chance and guess, what this old LADA Niva is equiped for.

Bungee jumpin'

If there is no park or playground, kids will think of something. Watch these brave ones swinging beneath the branches of an oak tree. Do you know, how they get themselves in motion? They climb the tree holding the rope end, then bungee jumps from some 4 or 5 metres reaching some serious swinging amplitude. It's fun and it's for free!

Pienenes - Dent de Lion

Zemitani train station from behind. And I noticed these very widespread flowers - dent-de-lion (french name). They are very nice when blooming, but then time comes when their heads turn into white airborne seeds, noone can stop them. After flying they can "park" on your greenery and surprise you next spring.

Not Frederick, but Red brick

Red bricks and lots of additional elements make this house stand out of all the others. In few previous posts you might want to check out the close -ups of this extraordinary building.

A very characteristic element on the same building Aigars posted yesterday, makes people stop and watch it. The whole building will be posted next day.

Stone Bridge (Akmens Tilts)

In coming years Stone bridge will be converted and accessible to pedestrian and public transport only. It will not happen before Light Castle will be built and before South Crossing and possibly Northern Corridor projects will be completed.

Near new high rises policemen were stopping literally every biker to make sure he has a drivers licence with corresponding category and "face control" after which they decided to do the alco test or set the rider free :)

Spectacular buildings

To my mind water towers and wind mills are spectacular buildings. I think I would pick an apartment on the top floor of such water tower, but I am not sure about wind mill :)

1st post: Moto parade in Riga (Burnout)

Twice a year we have the biggest motorcycle meetings in Riga, those are opening and closing of the moto season. Every kind of two and three wheelers of Latvia and few guest riders from other Baltic countries gathered in a supermarket parking place by the river Daugava to take a unified ride through the city. Traffic was closed for that moment of course. This was actually on 26th of April when around 2000 motorcycles in a row thundered in the streets of Riga. It is a tremendous feeling to be a part of it.

Not ready yet

The largest infrastructure project under construction in Baltics - South Bridge. Exit and entry connections are already set up, this is the right bank of the river Daugava, Krasta street by the old bridge called "Stahanchick" over the railroad.

Wheely nice reflection

You cannot see the wheels in reflection, because there are no wheels. Such kind of theft is still common and it is fast and easy "business". They, who got away unseen, may easily "earn" approximately EUR 1000,- for those 19" alloys. That is a hot deal, believe me! Now what would you choose - parking ticket or your ride served on the rocks? I prefer catching them in action, oh yeah, poor bastards!

Locals would immediately recognize this one. It's one of the most popular supermarkets. They are really alike all over the world - you can put everything in plastic bags.

Attitude to every detail

The fastest way to get your car washed is in the automatic high water pressure car wash, that can be found in popular fuel stations. But sometimes they are out of order, queued and sometimes you need to rewash your car to get a satisfactory result. Or you can get your car washed with a human attitude to every detail that needs attention. That's what I prefer! It takes more time and is a bit more expensive, though result is worth it.

Two o'clock at night

Last year on a rainy October day I posted a picture with ladies who sell flowers on the street. Nothing has changed, they still do. Maybe it doesn't surprise you, but as a matter of fact it's two o'clock at night and you can have almost any kind of flowers. It is at the edge of Vermanes park on Terbatas street.
