- What do you think of this from your hart?

If you think that these four twelve storey commie block “high rises” on the right bank of Daugava in Kengargs are sort of exclusive you might be wrong. The location is excellent though the architecture doesn’t attract the buyers that much because they have drawbacks like no soundproofing, no insulation and windows are half rotten except if owners have saved enough money to replace them and improve energy efficiency there. The photo was taken from drainpipe stretching some 10 meters into the water. There was no stench, so I guess the pipe was not a sewerage outlet.

I bet it won't be long now before some developers raze the buildings and build new, exclusive flats, condos or homes...I've seen it done all over Eastern Europe the last few years.
Like you said - it is a great location!

Great location but it doesn't sound very appealing to me. I suppose if that's all you can afford you make the best of it and become creative in being confortable.

Wow....looks a little too cramped to survive no soundproofing! It is a beautiful spot, though.

Thanks for visiting my blog! If I see the stormtroopers again, I'll ask them how far they travel!

:) few examples:
wear earplugs;
turn up the volume of your stereo or TV;
get naked and jump on your f-buddy, and make the same sounds you hear through the wall next to you;
grab some beer and go fishin' by the drainpipe to get some food

yes, absolutely no sound proofing!
however, most of such blocks of flats in our town are well-maintained. Recently i saw some updating with insulation..so, that'll help extend the life span

Those four buildings, regardless of their liveability, are in a beautiful spot and way back in '05 when I was on a river tour boat for a party, those four leapt out from the rest of the dull gray landscape because they were painted a kaleidoscope of colors! In the evening sun, even those natty ol' commieblocks looked magical!

Oh c'mon, sound proofing ain't that bad. Those commie buildings have no architecture but sound proofing is fine.

They're built from brick/concrete blocks. They don't need soundproofing. I lived in one of those for the first 16 years of my life, before I moved to USA, where I have lived for the past 10 years.

Lemme tell you, it's the homes/apartment buildings in USA, that are built from 2x4's and plywood that need soundproofing
