Even though we would not want to know anything about it, for many people everyday reality is digging through rubbish containers. Nevertheless, yesterday I saw a video interview with some tramps - they proudly declared that their everyday diet is slightly out of date salmons and Baileys.

Life must be tough on the streets - especially in winter - these people are tough and proud!!!
Are there any charity-run shelters for them to get food and a bed at night??
i come back from Riga where i stay in march for holidays: weather was cold and i saw this reality too in certains parts of town, moscow disctrict especially where i stay. Many old people too its sad. But people are proud and all were friendly. Latvia is a great country. Thierry france
Shelters and food is available from government - though they use it only if there is extreme cold (below -5) or no luck in trash bins:)
I saw another interview where they say that "we" (people who don't live on the street) throw away everything: even money and jewelery. It is true - i saw a women yesterday throwing away 10 eur by accident, could not do anything to help her.
