This is a one of the main streets in Riga Old Town. On the left you can see currency exchange bureau.

Riga Old city used to be surrounded by Riga Wall. Nowadays city walls are replaced by surveillance cameras and police wondering around.

Wavy street

This cobbled Katrinas street is so deformed, because it carries lots of trucks heading to Riga cargo terminal.

The puddle is full of rubbish... the reflection is clear.

Denmark

Embassy of Denmark has settled in this building surrounded with surveillance cameras. Pils str. leads to Dome square to the left.

Tram depot

Tram depot is still lightened with decorations. It is so strange still very pleasant to see such a remote corner tuned up for cheerful atmosphere.

Kaefer

Green Kaefer, hair saloon and a flower shop with a cute name "ar putniem". Literaly it means like "with birds" meaning "crazy" or "lost it".

Before getting icy

Nights are subzero now. Puddles will freeze first. Then lakes. Then rivers. Then may be Riga Gulf, but may be not.
If it will get cold enough this winter I promised myself to try a new stuff - winter windsurfing on ice. See video.

What happens in economic downturn

It is affecting many people and businesses all over the world. Retail figures are suffering and shops are trying to encourage shoppers with discounted sales.

The old wagon is still parked on Alfreda Kalnina str. near backyard of Riga Circus.

If traffic in Riga would be similar to the one in Cairo.

Its not the easiest job, is it? You get so much abuse for doing what you are being paid to do. And you have to do it because otherwise the city traffic would be very much like in Cairo:) Not that there is anything wrong with Cairo traffic...In fact urban legend tells, that Japanese were hired to evaluate how traffic in Cairo could be optimised. Studies concluded that the traffic in Cairo can not be made more efficient than it is now. Here you go.

Talking Stones back home in Latvia

Talking Stones (Runājošie Akmeņi) is Latvian design project and it was presented in France in 2005. Now in Riga Old Town they have something to say. The images are projected on them and they are producing sound - telling different stories.Here is a video where you can see and hear them talking.

Abandoned

The cobblestone street named Kungu enters the Old Riga to the right. The street is wide enough, but it is closed for driving mainly because of the tram line.

A gate to nowhere...

Not very nice, but true. Every city has its dark corners.

What time is it?

This is an early night shot towards the Central Train Station. It is interesting to note, that the clock in the tower is frequently out of order and is misguiding masses of people. As reported in media, there will be new contractors looking after it soon.

Names

The rumor is that these names on cobble stones near Riga Central Station are belonging to people who has died from HIV. Do you know anything about it?

No way!

Sometimes "NO WAY" sign is not enough to block the traffic. This solid post will surely keep this Old Riga street free of traffic and parked cars. There are no restrictions for bypassers who wish to take pictures here :)

Modena & Monza

If you think this photo is from Monte Carlo streets, you are wrong. It is Old Riga, the place, where June posts of Kabuki and Red fred were captured, but this time I tried to focus on and get in one photo two red cars - passing Ferrari Modena and parked Ferrari Monza. In a minute Bentley Continental passed, strange but it was not red. The building on the right side is shopping centre.
