Wooden Castle Wreck


Different concepts of urbanisation are not always spreading across evenly. What I mean is - the renovation (one of the urbanisation concepts) is like a wave that starts from the centre and spreads to outwards. I hope this building will have enough patience to benefit from it.

Latvijas Balzams


Once it was the largest spirit drinks producer that belonged to Latvians. Now it is owned by Russian investor. The good thing is though - it is still producing some fine brands, including "Latvijas Balzams".

Riga wooden architecture


Grizinkalns is the area in the city centre that has many wooden 2 storey buildings. Many facades are being renovated (not this one) adding a colour to the autumn greyness.

It is affecting many people and businesses all over the world. Retail figures are suffering and shops are trying to encourage shoppers with discounted sales.

Old military vehicle


Not sure if it is now privately owned or it is owned by some government agencies. Anyway it was quite unusual to see it parked near the school my son goes to. It was probably a parent picking up his child.

Hotel Reval Elizabete


New hotel was opened this year on Elizabetes Street in Riga - "Reval Hotel Elizabete". There is another hotel called "Elizabete" on Dzirnavu street with a restaurant on the 4th floor. I went there few days ago with my friends for a hot chocolate. I spoke withe the waiter working there - he said that naming the new Reval hotel "Elizabete" has caused a lot of confusion to guests arriving because it is easy to mix them up.

Autumn temperatures in Riga

Yesterday temperatures at some places in Riga reached above 20°C. Since summer is over Latvians call such a phenomena "atvasara" or if translated Indian summer.
