Sword

I find this sculpture intriguing. I don't know what is the meaning of it. However, it seems to me that the warrior has tamed the dragon, but the creature is not hurt though... it is under temporary defeat.

Hourglass

It looks like an imitation of hourglass, but I am not sure what it was meant to be. Located on the first main junction when driving towards centre from Salu Bridge (tilts).

Mākslas Muzejs (Latvian Art Museum)

There are many symbols of Masonic and other secret (or rather not) societies. From this angle it seems that the central figure is wearing a mask. May be it is not and may be, if it is a mask, it has nothing to do with occult. Who knows.

I'll post another symbol tomorrow.

Stoned head

Very unfortunately I haven't got the name of the person represented in this sculpture (shame on me). It is located in Old Riga (Vecriga) on Tornu str.

Stuck in time or chimney

To my mind this is one beautiful piece of art, that is why I decided to post it once more and show how it looks at night, although Aigars already posted it before. Click the title.

Day/Night Watch

They are watching us, observing us day and night silently. They have witnessed things we will never know and probably no one will ever know...if they could only talk.

George Armitstead and his Mrs

The most significant Riga City Mayor looked after us from 1901 till 1912 when he died. At that time he converted Riga into modern European city. He introduced tram, built National Theatre, built Riga Hospital No1, Market places, Jaunmoku Castle and many important engineering projects. Now famous Art Nouveau (Jūgendstils) buildings were built at his time.

Keys

I looked at the top of the sculpted building and noticed those two crossed keys. Could it symbolize famous Riga keys?

Face

If you look closely at the sculpture in the middle of a photo you will spot a small face. Can you see it?

Sword

Another sculpture today. This time it is on Melngalvju Nams (Blackheads House) in Old Town. The whole thing is rebuilt from scratch from photos and plans made before WWII.

Riga Sculptures

This is a small corner park on Matisa street. Have a guess what are those two chimney-sweepers doing there. Ouups, I gave it away:)

Reading may damage your health

If you noticed someone reading a book would you call the police? Or what would you choose as the best place for reading? These two questions ran through my mind when I spotted this boy on the edge of the roof of this five storey building in Old Riga. Good for him that he is made of stone!
