Riga Airport is very popular among locals. It is a symbol of hope for better future somewhere else. There is a saying in Latvia:"The last Latvian, please switch off the lights in airport."

Returning from vacation

AirBaltic returning to Riga airport. Jet engines with fuselage have always reminded me of a sad smiley - :( in the sky, meaning "Returning from vacation".

Looks a bit deserted - economic situation must have affected it as well, I guess.

Sweeping wipers

A runway is being prepared for landing or take-off. It is hard to see that thin pale line, but at least you can see how the job is done.

Procedure

Those who travel by air recognize such view. Airplane can dock at the air-walk, but cannot leave it by itself, so that is what the "low rider" is for (from yesterdays post).

The great thing about last few days is that it's snowing at last. This photo is about something else though. Tomorrow I will share more of airport Riga.

Riga airport

In the twighlight it looks so much better than during day time, but inside it is quite cosy. As in all "civilized" airports, the security activities may appear irritating to many travellers. On the other hand, we all understand the reasons very clearly, till the moment we are obliged to spend a lot of time in those queues. For Riga visitors I can just give an advice to lower the risk of possible rip-off or fraud - always choose the red TAXI. :)
