Sun set in Riga Gulf

Another excellent image sent in from our guest photographer Edgars Lubarts.

Birds over Riga Central Market

Reminds me one Hitchcock movie. Doesn't it? Riga Central Market must be providing most of the foodstuff for them I reckon.

Sunset in Riga

As sun dove below clouds above us it illuminated them from below for a moment just before disappearing below horizon. If you look closely you can see cargo ships queing at the entrance to Daugava river.

Daugava river

This sunset just amazed me. Took the picture in Andrejsala North end.

Relaxing

Calm evening by the lake Kisezers between Bergi and Jaunciems - remote suburb area.

Vanilla sky

Todays changing weather prepared skies above Riga for a dramatic sunset. The lampposts are ready to take over the lightening of Riga passenger port.

Sun set in Suburbs

Massive blocks of panel apartments are built around Riga central area. They are built in a much less denser manner than central buildings. They say that one reason for it was to provide undisturbed access to the infrastructure in a case buildings will collapse due to military activity.

Suburb areas

Some of Riga suburb areas are not very pleasant, although evening sunlight and a good company make me not to think about it.

Trapped sunset

Trapped sunset is something new for me. I captured this from Vansu bridge.

Urban Sunset

The winter season on top of short days brings so much cloudiness that I welcome any appearance of my beloved sun.

Golden lace

When a blogger has no inspiration to write he tends to choose a photo that doesn't require words. True or False?
This seascape and clouds on the horizon with golden lace deserve at least on word...

Arriving yacht

I had nothing else to do, so I went to Andrejsala again to capture this arriving yacht. The whole scene reminds me of coffee with cream :)

Cracks in the sky

The photo is taken from the sidewalk of Vansu bridge. Thanks there was no wind at all, so I could capture the branches of that tree so sharp. Looks like the sky has cracked, a bit surreal, isn't it?

Golden water

Those who love sunsets were pleased by warm shining of the sun, and I feel lucky to be one of them. Gold shimmers on the surface of river Daugava, so the gold diggers are welcome to Andrejsala tonight :) .

Power lines

Sunlight is leaving Riga again, but city will keep shining, thanks to those powerlines. I suppose, it would be nicer if they lay underground.

- Dull people don't always do the wisest things.

I am used to see sun setting in the sea, not down the street. Now I am asking myself, why didn't they call it "The Sunset st."? By the way, did someone notice those even leveled cobblestones?

Wednesday, 23 May 2007

It was dark and they looked a bit like goats.

Tonight twilight turned island landscape into surreal oriental or African prairie sunset. Behind the camera is me Karlis, Kundzinsala peninsula housing poor people as well as few rich ones, marine container terminal and other cargo facilities. Once I saw here a local oldtimer lady with some 20 goats passing through this remote area being flooded each spring by waters of river Daugava. And yes, the floodwaters enter houses of people living in Kundzinsala every year. How romantic is that?
