Citadele

... it is the same bank which used to be called PAREX. Now it is using symbols similar to the flag of Latvia... to anchor some good feelings about bankrupt bank.

Skyline

The Albert Hotel Sky Bar provides rare views of the city. The high rises in Riga are very scattered, however from this perspective we can see 6 very high buildings - 2xPanorma Plaza, Swedbank, Preses Nams, Vansu Bridge, Ministry of Agriculture.

Road closed

For some reason the road is closed. It might be because of some activities at presidents palace, for example VIP visitors transportation or preparation work for public event by the river bank.

Just another perspective on Vantinieks, as Rigans call it, from Kipsala near Sun Stone (Saules Akmens) highrise.

Centre House (Centra nams) and "Silage" Tower

Centre House, Silage Tower (Skabbaribas tornis) One reason why the highest tower on the right is called a "silage tower" (Skābbarības Tornis) is because Ministry of Agriculture is located there. The building on the right has a nick name too - a Kettle... and that is despite the efforts of the architect to give it a shape of the ship:)

Bridges of Light

Tomorrow you will see rigans bringing light to the bridges, but meanwhile enjoy this brilliant light bridge. Last night latvians with candlelights and lanterns joined on 220 bridges (even in Ireland and Peru) to symbolize our love to Latvia and freedom, remember how we joined our hands (literally) through all three Baltic countries nineteen years ago to regain our freedom. BTW our freedom was first recognized by Iceland in 1991. Tonight we welcome Sigur Ros (band from Iceland) to perform in Arena Riga and join our bridges of light. Click title to see more.

Rīgas Regate

As part of Riga City celebration windsurfing competition took place in Daugava river last weekend. I have to say though - it wasn't windy enough for a good ride.

Queue

Vansu Bridge is always "congested dot com" because it is facing bottle neck at the Right Bank of Daugava River.
When I was taking this photo the driver of Mercedes looked at me in a way I thought I'll rather no do it, but then, since I had started doing it I finished it up:)

Vansu Bridge

Vansu bridge has been here with us many times, though this one seem particular to me because of a "cleaning unit" working on site.

Parallels

I was on the left bank of the river Daugava when I noticed the cloud line in the sky parallel to that extraordinary building's roof element. The highrise is the Ministry of Agriculture, Vansu bridge is on the right side out of the scene.

Cracks in the sky

The photo is taken from the sidewalk of Vansu bridge. Thanks there was no wind at all, so I could capture the branches of that tree so sharp. Looks like the sky has cracked, a bit surreal, isn't it?
