Riga 3D

Another day I went to the exhibition "The process of good architecture" where I found physical 3D model of Riga present, under construction (u/c) and planned buildings and structures. The blue ones are either planned, approved or u/c on left bank of river Daugava - locally called Pārdaugava.

Different...

...reflection. I am kinda stuck with them permanently. This was done in rain against the bonnet of black Toyota on Dzirnavu street.

Queue

Vansu Bridge is always "congested dot com" because it is facing bottle neck at the Right Bank of Daugava River.
When I was taking this photo the driver of Mercedes looked at me in a way I thought I'll rather no do it, but then, since I had started doing it I finished it up:)

The house with a clock tower

I do not know how many are left, but I will keep posting time by time the beautiful Art Nouveau buildings that are in decent condition. But there will be some exceptions as well. Anyway the collection is becoming bigger each month.

Miserable feeling

Can you recall that miserable feeling at the moment you notice something attached to the window of your car? Parking tickets...
There are some people who try to find a solution - after they park wrongly, they attach "yesterdays" ticket to their car, hoping that police will ignore their vehicle. As you can see in the photo, sometimes it doesn't pay off.

Two o'clock at night

Last year on a rainy October day I posted a picture with ladies who sell flowers on the street. Nothing has changed, they still do. Maybe it doesn't surprise you, but as a matter of fact it's two o'clock at night and you can have almost any kind of flowers. It is at the edge of Vermanes park on Terbatas street.

Splendid Palace

As promised here it is - the old "Splendid Palace". Nowadays people know it as cinema "Riga". It is being renovated and I wonder how fabulous it will appear afterwards. No doubt that "Europa Cinema" and "European Art Cinemas Association" will be proud of the new member.

Reval Hotel

Reval Latvia Hotel from Terbatas and Elizabetes street junction. On the right there is cinema "Riga" currently being renovated. When opened in 1923 it was known as “Splendid Palace”. It was the first sound reproducing cinema in Baltics. The exterior and interior is something you must see...and you will... a bit later.

First time

This is very unusual picture because what you will find here you will not be able to observe very often on streets of Riga. If you click on image and look closely on the right side just left from where the tram is coming into the picture you will find someone driving two wheeled personal transport Segway.

Loft

One place in urban environment I admire so much I would love to live in despite potential inconveniences is attic. Its just because of dramatic city views.

Someone is trying hard to feel comfortable in the "functional design object". This bench was made by a contest "Creative sitting in Andrejsala" winner Damien Spies.

Umbrella

"Double Coffee" coffee shops you see on the right corner are very popular among Rigans. There are quite a few of them in the City Centre. One reason for their popularity could be the wi-fi internet they provide.

Green and White

I was so glad to see some gray bushes becoming green and so upset to see... here we go - snow fighting back fiercely.

Bye Bye Winter

As winter tears hardly get frozen over night we wish it would step down even faster.

Policing and gardening

While it is interesting to see the open air work being done - police patrolling and gardening - the most amazing thing for me is the fact that there are still last years leafs on these bushes.

Yet another bakery - at the beginning of Brivibas street. It was my birthday yesterday and I bought some pastries here – delicious.

Cakes and eclairs, muffins and pies

After yesterdays soup here is something sweet to offer. Early in the morning people know where to find delicious wonders-in the bakery on the corner of Tallinas and A. Caka streets.

Just spoons

Eating "out" is a common thing. And having a soup for lunch is a good choice to my mind. This lady thinks the same way, so I decided to find out her name. :)

Busy street

Busy street of Riga in the middle of the working day. It is a corner of A. Caka and Matisa streets.

The house I grew up in

The house on the corner is where I grew up and lived first 8 years of my life. Not changed much since then - see that soviet time clock - it was there since I can remember myself:)

Brivibas Street

I already posted this building on Brivibas st. few weeks ago, but could not resist to post it partly in reflection

New VEFBridge

The place I am standing on in next few years will become what it was intended to be - a driveway - a part of "East Motorway" forming a drive-around the city centre.

Kalku str.

This is the main entrance into the Old Riga. Just walk down the Kalku str. leaving Freedom Monument behind.

Water Tower & Pedaling

Even though I don't have a bike, pushing it in miserable weather conditions always amazes me.

Deer

Lido attraction site is well know among Rigans and one place visitors are very often taken to. You can have a meal in a reasonably traditional way there as well as beer or something stronger:)

Latvian University B&W

As we do not do many b&w photos (I can not recall doing one) I decided on blending it with reflection principle to see how it works on Merkela streeet. The Latvian University is on the Right.
